It DEPENDS!

Under 60 year old guy walks into a store and asks an "informed" employee where the diapers are? Employee points to the farthest wall and says "Diapers are on the far wall."

Guy walks over to far wall and finds...suprise, suprise adult diapers.  Puzzled, confused, and now wondering aimlessly around the incontinence section still looking for baby diapers this guy begins to wonder, why did he send me to the ADULT DIAPER section?

First, I try to put myself in employee's shoes -a customer walks in and asks where the diapers are... do I ask...adult or child? Or, do I just assume that he needs adult diapers? Why would I assume this individual is looking for adult diapers? Does he appear to need them? Does he look like the kind of person who possibly takes care of an aged person who needs adult diapers? Why - would I point him to ADULT diapers? (AND I AM NOT MAKING FUN OF PEOPLE WHO NEED THIS KIND OF PROTECTION)

I mean, I wasn't even wearing the baggy pants. I don't know maybe I had a pained look on my face. No matter why he told me, mistake, pre-conceived notion of adult diaper consumption, or just plain hilarity...he did. Just a little tale from my neck of the woods.

Festivus for the rest of us!

Fetsivus! The airing of grievances, the feats of strength, the single aluminum pole. Ahhh -the anti-holidays!!!  The celebration made popular on Seinfield episode #166 entitled "The Strike" was in fact based upon a real holiday started by a Reader's Digest employee back in 1966, called - Festivus. The airing of grievances was part of that, as was the feats of strength. But, Festivus could occur any time between December and May, unlike today when most Festivus participants celebrate on December 23rd.

Oh yeah...people are celebrating Festivus now...and have been for a couple of years. Seems that commercialism, or just the plain silliness of the event have struck a cord with people across the world. Or maybe, like me - they just want to air grievances and wrestle.

Hate Something Better

Honda has a hit commercial on their hands with the "Hate Something, Change Something, Make Something Better Diesel campaign in the UK. Sung by Garrison Keillor, and animated with bunnies, rainbows, and flying engines...it's really something to behold. I love Keillor anyway, and his voice is suitable for listening - even if he was just reading the phone book. But the tune is truly snappy and asks the question..."Can hate be good, can hate be great, can hate be something...that we don't hate?" It actually sounds better than it looks...the download takes a while...it's worth it. HONDA.CHANGE

Get some Widgets

Konfabulator is just what the website says,"Whatever you want it to be." A program that allows you to load smaller programs, or widgets, that operate on the desktop, or just below it. Widgets that allow for everything from the current weather, To do lists, phases of the moon, stock tips, wireless network availability, and even haiku generators. You could spend a tremendous amount of time just lurking around the konfab website...just load the latest version and let time takes it's course. You will discover the widgets that you need, and the ones that you could live without. For me personally, the dictionary, thesaurus widget is one I have found UTTERLY ESSENTIAL.

Speegle

Just in case you ever get too lazy to READ the results from a Google query. Here is Speegle, a UK company that reads the search results for you. Yeah...that's right - it's that stupid. But - I do just love hearing someone read to me...don't you?

And when you think about it, it's a great way for a company that sells voice recognition software or software that reads text aloud...like say for call centers, to get a lot of attention for their company. Create a "google-like" program that exhibits some of what your software can do. Instant recognition. So I make fun of it...like most sites will - but the company that sells the software gets a lot of free run on the medium that they want to reach out to anyway. Savvy!! Results Are In...

The "Ice Test" is done...and the results are SHOCKING!!! 
(1) Route 44 Sonic Sprite w/ nugget ice (44 ounces)
(1) Large McDonalds Coke w/ cubed ice (42 ounces)

(1) large bowl for measuring the liquid
(1) strainer for removing the ice from the equation.
Now before i divulge the results of which cup had more actual liquid in it I will say, the McDonald's lady who poured my drink (from the drive thru) added a huge helping of ice to the cup prior to filling it with Coke. I did not see the Sonic people make my drink, but after i opened it and saw 4 beautiful lime wedges in my Sprite with that georgeous ice, I knew it was love that had made that drink. And, frankly - it had better been love, it cost twice as much as the McDonalds drink cost. 

But, the Sonic drink still had more product in it than the McDonalds product. The "44 ounce" Sonic drink contained 32 ounces of Sprite. The "42 ounce" McDonalds drink contained 27 ounces of Coke. For the money the McDonalds product showed the greater value, but for the presentation - it was clearly the Route 44 from Sonic. I asked the car-hop who served me the Route 44 how common it was to have people drive up and just order drinks. She said, "All the time! Sometimes we get whole carloads of people drive up and just order drinks." Conversely, I asked the McDonalds voice on the other side of the speaker the same question, and got, "Please drive around."

Where does this leave us?? Ice is in the mouth of the beholder? I leave it up to you dear reader...to draw the analogy - and Yoda, if you need a shirt...just email me...and you got it! (as long as you wear L - cause that's all I have left)
