It must be official, I heard The Roots on a Target commercial, they must be large now. Check out The Tipping Point...it's a great album. Also, their label Okayplayer is putting out some good stuff - Okayplayer True Notes Volume 1 has some solid joints on it.
300 days on tour for 12 years...I call that TOILING!

Gonna have to call this one out...not harping on you John...just your word choice.
Toiling?
I like a good song as much as the next guy and appreciate the talent and hard work it takes to make something "music." This may entail concentration and a deft touch to put notes to a rhythm; which has the potential to drain a musician after he's played for a while. I would even call this "work." I'm sure there's some pleasure from making music, but it's still work.
BUT...it is NOT toiling...maybe if they made music while running/marching in the desert, or carried a tune while changing out a broken transmission...my point is this: toiling should be reserved for strenuous manual labor or forced work bringing exhaustion.
All too often, the more artistically gifted (even those pretending to be) steal a word or two reserved for the auto mechanic or soldier to justify the relatively "easy" life of an artist.
I'm calling that out.
Enough of my toiling over this keyboard...gotta go whistle while I change my oil-

It's exactly what The Roots have been toiling for the last 12 years...it's about time people recognized their greatness.
