What are two of the biggest drawbacks to alcohol consumption for the modern partygoer? Hangovers, of course have always plagued the drinking scene. More recently carbs have been the bane of existence for the svelte alki. The AWOL system has found a way to diffuse both of those little snags. How does it work? The user chooses which spirit will be used and the spirit is loaded into a diffuser capsule in the machine. The oxygen bubbles are then passed through the capsule, absorbing the alcohol, before being inhaled through a tube. The resultant cloudy alcohol vapor is then inhaled from the end of the tube via a device akin to an asthma inhaler.
Once inhaled, the alcoholic gas goes straight into the bloodstream to give an instant ‘hit’. The potent combination of oxygen and alcohol creates a feeling of well-being, which intensifies the longer the vapor is inhaled.
The A.W.O.L. or, Alcohol With Out Liquid has been in use in the United Kingdom for some time and is coming to a club near you in the U.S. The recent rush of oxygen and hookah bars has only blazed the way for people to be more accepting of "breathing" alcohol. The high is immediate and euphoric, but critics worry that it will lead to more debauchery and possibly brain damage. You see by snorting the drink, you completely bypass the liver...livers everywhere cheer...but that makes your brain the catcher for possibly much more dangerous alcohol. See...carbs aren't the only thing dangerous about drinking hard liquor.
It takes 20 - 30 minutes to HUFF a shot of the liquor of your choice. The company recommends that you breathe normally and only through the mouth, as opposed to taking it in through your nose. My only question is...if you normally smoke when you drink - would you blow up if you lit a heater while "breathing" your alcohol?
by the bye, you can do the same yourself without equipment at your next keg party ;)
when the keg is empty, pull the spike out, place your mouth over the hole, then suck and blow, suck and blow a few times.
stand up
fall over
20 beers' impact in 10 seconds :)
you're right as rain again in 2mins after a bit of a lie down.

it doesn't actually bypass the liver, it bypasses your digestive tract. so the chance of causing unusual brain damage is pretty low, especially because
1/ the onrush is so strong that you are likely to be unable to go past a large dose
2/ brain damage is actually caused in the longer term by the nutritional deficiences associated with the extra load of processing alcohol. since you'll actually ingest far LESS alcohol this way for the same effect, it's actually likely to improve your health in the long term

I read about this...weird stuff. How far away are we from inhaling steaks and other foods? I suppose if your only concern is the "high", then this is an attractive option, but for those of us who sometimes enjoy the flavor of a beverage, this hardly seems like an advancement.
